My dear son played soccer many years ago. After a three year break, he is back in the
game. I am very thankful that it is an
indoor soccer complex. It makes
attending the game a breeze. And I
regained my title of soccer mom – very fun.
However, something else has happened.
Instead of calling me Mom or Mommy, he has started calling me
Mother. Yes, Mother. Each and every time he speaks to me. At first I did not think much about it; but
after the 100th time, I could not stay quiet anymore. So this morning I asked him why he had
started calling me Mother. He said to be
fun and do something different. And
there you have it.
So for as long as it last, I am Soccer Mother.
He also gets really excited sometimes and before he knows
what has come out of his mouth, he looks right at me and calls me Dad. Then we laugh.
I have a niece-in-love who occasionally gets tripped up and
calls me Granny. There is no
laughing. I give her the look. Her sister calls me Shortcake. That name warms my heart.
Have your kids done anything like this to you? Change your name of affection or started
calling you by your first name or a different one altogether? Please share.
I am still Mommy over here. I have heard "mom" a few times, but it did not stick.
